Woman from Myanmar (Docu), presented by Chinese director Wang Xiuyue

"The Woman from Myanmar" tells the challenging journey of a poor woman named Larry from Myanmar. Larry's life is filled with trials and misfortunes; she goes through three marriages across international borders, giving birth to four children in the process. In her pursuit of happiness, she finds herself on an irreversible path. This documentary follows Larry’s journey from Shandong, China, back to her hometown in northern Myanmar.

The film is directed by Wang Xiuyue, who teaches at the Shanghai Film Academy. His artistic endeavors span various mediums, including photography, documentary and animation films, digital media art, as well as modern and contemporary painting. Some of his notable works include "City Village" (2010), "From Generation to Generation" (2018), and "The Woman from Myanmar" (2022). He has also directed the animated short film "City Villagers" (2012).

"The Woman from Myanmar" has received multiple awards at international film festivals, including Best Director at the 2022 India Film Festival, Best Feature Documentary at the European Independent Film Festival, and an Honorable Mention for Best Documentary at the Eastern Europe Independent Film Festival. The film has been selected for various film festivals worldwide, such as the 11th Los Angeles Women’s Voices Now Film Festival, Swiss International Film Festival, and Portugal International Film Festival, among others. Notably, it has also been shortlisted for the third "Ten Recommended Films" by renowned film critic Zhang Xianmin.

The synopsis reveals that Larry was born in the mountainous region of northern Myanmar. When she was young, she injured her leg while helping to collect firewood on the mountain. Due to a lack of funds for medical treatment, she became crippled. At the age of fifteen or sixteen, Larry followed her aunt to northern China, where she married a much older man named
